National Strategy for the Electric Sector

AXIS 1. Strengthening the Planning of the National Electric Sector
In the context of global energy challenges, Mexico has established a strategic framework to strengthen planning for the electricity sector. This approach aims to guarantee access to affordable, reliable, sufficient and clean energy for all households, while ensuring the supply of the country's productive sectors.
The first axis of the National Strategy for the Electric Sector is focused on returning to the State the leadership of energy policy, a key action to promote equitable, inclusive and comprehensive development.
What does strengthening the planning of the national electricity sector entail?
This strategic axis includes the design and implementation of two fundamental tools:
- The National Energy Plan
- The National Energy Balance
These tools seek to coordinate efforts between key institutions such as SENER , CFE , PEMEX , CENACE , and others, allowing for an orderly energy transition towards cleaner and more sustainable technologies.
Key Objectives of the Strategy
The planning policy strengthens several fundamental aspects for the country's energy development:
- Transition to renewable energy: The aim is to diversify the energy matrix, prioritising sustainable sources such as solar and wind power.
- Greater energy self-sufficiency: Reduce dependence on external sources and promote local generation.
- Efficiency and rationality in consumption: Promote responsible and efficient use of energy resources.
- Fair prices and tariffs: Maintain realistic prices that reflect the real costs of generation and distribution.
- Energy Justice: Ensuring inclusive and equitable access for all communities.
Economic Impact and Strategic Projects
The implementation of this strategy has resulted in historic investments of $19.992 billion , aimed at:
- 35 generation projects.
- 60 transmission projects.
- 41 distribution projects.
- Acquisition of 13 Iberdrola power plants.
These investments seek to strengthen the national energy infrastructure, ensure a continuous supply and promote decarbonisation.
Towards a Sustainable Energy Future
Strengthening planning not only responds to the current needs of the electricity sector, but also lays the foundations for long-term sustainable energy development. This includes greater coordination in the transition towards natural gas and clean energy policies, aligned with Mexico's commitments to combat climate change.
At Corey Solar, we are committed to supporting this transition by offering high-quality solutions for solar installers and suppliers in Mexico. Our goal is to contribute to the development of a more efficient and sustainable energy system.
